Among Douyin, Kuaishou, Toutiao, WeChat official accounts, and Xiaohongshu, which one is easier to make money by running your own media?

This article compares and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of multiple self-media platforms, including Douyin, WeChat, Xiaohongshu, and Kuaishou, from multiple dimensions such as user attributes, content types, and monetization capabilities. It is a practical guide for choosing self-media platforms and provides a good reference for entrepreneurs.

Hello, fellow villagers. I am the village chief.

Most people don’t make money by running their own media.

First, the blogger himself is not good, and second, the platform is not good.

Some time ago, some UP hosts at Bilibili started to stop updating their content, which sparked heated discussions among everyone.

Many UP hosts with tens or millions of fans said that they cannot make money and cannot support their teams.

Many people often ask the village leader how to choose among so many self-media platforms.

So today, the village leader will give you a brief analysis based on his personal experience and provide some reference for friends who want to join the game.

1. Public domain platform, Douyin is the first choice

If your goal is to gain exposure, sell products, and receive advertising through content, then choose TikTok without hesitation.

One is that Douyin has enough users, more than all current content platforms, covering all age groups.

The second is that Douyin’s content exposure is guaranteed. As long as you shoot the video carefully, it will be played.

Unlike public accounts and Weibo, there are almost no recommendations.

Third, Douyin allows you to post blatant advertisements, which is not allowed on Bilibili and Xiaohongshu.

Fourthly, even if you don’t do well on Douyin, you still have the opportunity to direct traffic to private domains, Weibo and other channels.

Fifthly, Douyin encourages selling goods, so both consumers’ minds and platform functions can support selling goods.

Sixth, in terms of account monetization, it is still quite impressive overall.

Only by posting horizontal screen videos can you have the opportunity to gain traffic revenue on Xigua, Toutiao, or Douyin. Large accounts can also take over Star Maps, do live broadcasts, and sell goods.

As for monetization, at present, merchants' willingness to place advertisements on Douyin is many times stronger than on other channels.

2. For private domain sedimentation, WeChat is a must

Whether it is a public account whose opening rate has been declining, or a video account that has been quietly making efforts, if you want to drive traffic to WeChat private chats, groups, and Moments, you must choose WeChat.

Official accounts and video accounts actually complement each other.

Because public account articles can be directly inserted into video accounts, and video accounts can also directly mount public account links.

Personally, I think the content of public accounts is relatively large, and some extreme remarks can be published quickly, including products.

However, the reading volume of the official account is not satisfactory, and the system recommendation can be ignored, especially for new accounts.

It can be understood that as long as you don’t share it yourself, there will be no traffic.

In addition, in terms of monetization efficiency, public accounts have passed their most popular stage.

Therefore, if you want to rely solely on your public account to increase followers, generate cash, take advertisements, etc., as an ordinary person or an ordinary organization, it is a fantasy.

For individual authors, if they want to monetize through writing, social networking, etc. in the future, they can do it.

However, it is not recommended that you place a bet in the early stage. From the perspective of increasing fans, I hope to achieve traffic through channels such as Video Account, Zhihu, Xiaohongshu, Weibo, and Douyin.

3. Fashion Recommendation Xiaohongshu

To be honest, I personally haven’t done much research on Xiaohongshu.

From what I understand so far, Xiaohongshu is more inclined towards fashionable young people.

For example, a rural woman in her fifties or sixties will definitely not open Xiaohongshu, but she will definitely watch Douyin.

Xiaohongshu’s current mainstream content areas include: food, clothing, beauty, hotels, travel and catering, and entertainment. Other categories are relatively weak.

For example, if you want to do talent show live broadcast, beauty live broadcast, video short drama, operation training and so on, Xiaohongshu is not suitable.

As for Xiaohongshu's monetization capabilities, my friends around me see it more as a traffic channel.

Therefore, for individual authors who want to sell products or accept advertisements directly on it, it will be a relatively long process.

But for some individual categories, it does have advantages, such as clothing, small beautiful department stores and the like.

4. For a down-to-earth and large-scale style, choose Kuaishou

If your target users are from platforms such as Pinduoduo, Taote, and Jingxi, then you must choose Kuaishou.

I personally think Kuaishou is suitable for two types of authors:

The first type is more talent-oriented, including beautiful anchors, funny anchors, emotional stories, and drama interpretations.

The second type is those who sell goods directly, especially those who want to sell at 19.9, 29.9, etc., and prefer white-label products.

The monetization of text and picture content on Kuaishou is relatively weak, especially for knowledge bloggers.

As long as you are bold, down-to-earth, and sell things directly, you are suitable for Kuaishou.

At least I personally think that in terms of content e-commerce, there is no other than Douyin and Kuaishou.

Try Kuaishou! It's really profitable!

Kuaishou, a trillion-dollar Pinduoduo.

5. Zhihu, Bilibili, etc., just look at them

Then some friends will ask, don’t we also have Zhihu, Weibo, Baijiahao, Dayuhao, Sohuhao, NetEasehao, etc.

To be honest, among these, Baijiahao can still make some money from traffic, Zhihu can still attract traffic, and the others can be ignored.

If you have the energy, synchronize it, if you don't have the people, leave it alone.

By the way, Baijiahao actually still has traffic, but it is difficult to establish a personal IP as you said.

Some short video accounts can rely on platform support to earn some traffic fees, but it is quite difficult to rely on taking advertisements, selling products, and live streaming to sell goods.

6. Focus on building a good platform

There are really many self-media platforms, but it is recommended that you focus on choosing one, especially if you are a novice.

I would recommend that you give priority to Douyin products: Douyin, Toutiao, Xigua Video, and Pipixia.

First, the user attributes, traffic rules, revenue methods, and support levels of each platform are different, so you need to think clearly based on your own business.

Second, it is most important for novices to concentrate on building a platform and try it out quickly.

Third, if you want to be a self-media, you should first stick to any platform for 100 days and create 100 pieces of content before making a decision. Don’t give up immediately.

If you want to start your own business or want to make money more freely, creating your own media is indeed the first choice for many people. Comparatively speaking, the risk and investment cost are very low.

However, if you want to make money through self-media and become an internet celebrity, this job is still quite difficult.
