Hello, fellow villagers. I am the village chief. If you don’t have money, don’t be a digital nomad! In recent years, a term has become popular: digital nomad. It sounds very high-sounding, but in fact, to be more straightforward, it means being a freelancer. Maybe it's not rigorous enough, but it's not much different from the so-called odd jobs, that's it. Come to think of it, some of my friends are digital nomads and have been working from home for more than half a year. Their boss is overseas all year round and their team members come from all over the country. Many people envy this state, where they don’t have to clock in and out at the company, there is no traffic congestion, no complicated relationships with colleagues, and they just have to get things done online. It sounds like that, but ordinary people can't be digital nomads. 1. What skills do you have that can be monetized? Some people naively think that if they can't find a job, they can become digital nomads. In fact, if you want to be a digital nomad, the most important thing to test is what skills you have. Moreover, your skills even surpass those of many people, and your abilities are recognized, so the client is willing to let you work remotely or earn some money independently. Are you good at coding? Good at copywriting? Good at editing? Good at design? Good at planning? If your skills are not good enough to give you a competitive advantage, then forget about it. Otherwise, you will be unemployed if you resign. 2. What opportunities did you get?Even if you have certain skills, someone still needs to provide you with opportunities. At present in China, compared with the so-called digital nomads, part-time work, outsourcing, consulting, and personal IP are more common. If you want to be able to work remotely across the country, you still need opportunities. The so-called opportunities in the country are actually still very small. But companies have no shortage of money to hire people, and small bosses are hesitant to manage people. 3. Ability to sell yourselfIf you want to be a digital nomad, instead of looking for a job like this, it is better to rely on your own connections and strength to actively get opportunities. First, the ability to build social connections. During work, try to build as many valuable connections and customer resources as possible. Secondly, you must have the ability to sell yourself, be able to seize opportunities to actively showcase yourself, and let customers know about your abilities and services. The third is the ability to continuously acquire customers. What methods and channels do you have that enable you to continuously acquire customers? 4. Strong self-disciplineWithout clocking in and out, and without the supervision of colleagues and bosses, if you want to be a digital nomad, you must have extremely strong self-discipline. Many people lie down in bed as soon as they get home. Holding my phone, scrolling through Douyin and Toutiao, the whole morning passed. Without strong self-discipline, it is difficult to succeed. 5. Self-learning and growth abilityThere is a lack of opportunities for face-to-face communication with colleagues, and even training and learning opportunities organized by the unit. Then as an individual, you must continue to require yourself to take the initiative to learn new skills, rules, gameplay, etc. For many people, the longer they stay at home, the lower their abilities become. 6. Sustainable monetization businessIn addition to writing copy and editing videos for others, what other services do you have that can be monetized? Because you can never be sure that your next job will be secure or that your digital employer will continue to purchase your services. Therefore, you must improve your monetization services. 7. Working and starting a business are two different thingsThe digital nomads we mentioned earlier are still from the perspective of a worker. You just go to an employer and the employer pays you a salary. This method actually has a guaranteed minimum and is supervised. The other type of digital nomad is actually an entrepreneur. You may be running a public account, Douyin, Kuaishou, or video account, or you may be selling products on an e-commerce platform, or you may be developing some interesting gadgets. For individual entrepreneurship, the overall ability requirement coefficient rises again. Not only do you need to have skills and understand the business, you also have to do growth, delivery, after-sales, etc., and you must be self-disciplined. I have seen many people quit their jobs to work in self-media, but they sleep until 12 o'clock all day and only update a video every two or three days. Finally, all the money in his pocket was gone, and he had no choice but to return to the concrete office building. Summary: People who have no money, no ability, and no self-discipline should not become digital nomads and should not quit their jobs to start a business.
