eBay UK reaches partnership with Riskinned

eBay UK recently announced a partnership with Riskinned, a second-hand clothing repair and resale platform, to strengthen the supply of second-hand goods on eBay's online market and reduce fashion product waste.

The Riskinned platform's main business is to take back worn items from shoppers and refurbish them for resale, reuse or recycling, extending the life of the product.

Currently, the platform has more than 30 partner brands, including Finisterre, Sweaty Betty, River Island and Joules.

Through this cooperation, eBay will launch an online store called "brand approved" to sell second-hand items that have been riskinned, and the prices of all products are usually about 40% lower than the retail price. eBay said this will help it better reach 20 million buyers.

Jemma Tadd, head of eBay UK Fashion, said that eBay has been focusing on the second-hand fashion sector since 1995. The previously launched "Imperfects" platform and the current "brand approved" are both efforts made by eBay to strengthen the sustainable fashion economy. The cooperation between eBay and Riskinned will extend the life cycle of items, avoid waste, reduce shoppers' expenses and protect the environment.

Data shows that in 2021, eBay recycled more than 17,770 tons of fashion items, keeping them from landfill. On eBay, two second-hand items are sold every second and one refurbished electronic product is sold every 10 seconds.

According to eBay's 2022 Global E-Commerce Report, 42% of eBay buyers want to reduce waste, and 72% of sellers believe that they have purchased second-hand products more frequently in the past year. In addition, the demand for second-hand products among Generation Z is growing faster than that for new products.

It is worth mentioning that in April this year, eBay UK announced the launch of the "Imperfects" platform, which aims to reduce waste of fashion products.

The Imperfects platform works with more than a hundred high street and high-end brands, such as North Face, Off White, Puma, Fila and Timberland. The products sold include clothes, shoes and accessories with minor defects, and buyers can enjoy discounts of up to 60%.

eBay says all defects will be clearly marked in the product listing with real photos so customers know exactly what the product actually looks like. Buyers on Imperfects also get free shipping and 30-day returns with a money-back guarantee.
