Are Shopee and Lazada doing well now? Detailed analysis

If you want to open a store online, you can consider domestic platforms or cross-border e-commerce platforms. The three leading cross-border platforms are Shopee, Amazon, and Lazada. Some people ask, are Shopee and Lazada still doing well?

1. Lazada and Shopee have similar starting points but different backgrounds. Lazada was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Singapore. Its business covers six Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, covering approximately 500 million consumers.

In March 2018, Alibaba invested an additional US$2 billion, holding 83% of the shares. Peng Lei became the chairman, and Lazada became a complete Alibaba platform, replacing AliExpress to conquer the Southeast Asian market. In March 2018, Lazada also announced the establishment of TechHub, an office in Shenzhen. In 2009, Tianjin native Li Xiaodong founded the game company Garena in Singapore. In 2017, the company was renamed Sea Group and became the first Southeast Asian technology company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the same year. Six years after its establishment, Sea entered the e-commerce field in 2015 and launched the full-category e-commerce platform Shopee. In the first and second quarters of 2018, Shopee's GMV was US$1.9 billion and US$2.2 billion respectively.

Among them, Shoppe's GMV in the first half of 2018 has reached the level of the whole year of 2017, and the growth is very rapid. (What is the concept of this sales volume? I will make a comparison with you when I have the chance)

2. Lazada and Shopee share the same amount of traffic, with a high degree of overlap in market and users

1. Excluding Taiwan, Lazada has a larger overall traffic;

2. In the Indonesian market, Shopee's traffic performance is better; the total traffic of Lazada and Shopee in the top three markets exceeds that of Wish.

3. Lazada has started the "six sites in one" plan and has an operating background, and the traffic of each site will be connected. In general, the traffic performance of the two major platforms, Lazada and Shopee, has its own characteristics, but the financial and technical support of Alibaba behind Lazada is what cross-border sellers should focus on when choosing a platform.

3. Lazada and Shopee have different brand strategies. In comparison, Lazada is more inclined to take the high-end image route, pays more attention to guiding sellers to highlight their own brands, and emphasizes the professional standard of pictures. Its brand strategy style is similar to that of AliExpress. Shopee's brand strategy is more like Taobao in China, taking the C-store route, highlighting the price advantage of products, and using various pictures (many of which have a lot of watermarks and irregular puzzles).

In general, Shopee and Lazada are still easy to do now. If you are a novice doing cross-border business, I would recommend Shopee platform because it has more traffic, Shopee is easier to operate, and the backend interface is in Chinese.
