Today I will share some of the experiences I have summarized from the five years of working on Xiaohongshu: This article includes: platform rules, content and operations, monetization and traffic. If you are a new blogger or a merchant who has just started working on Xiaohongshu, you can read the entire content; I believe it will improve and help you. 1. Can one mobile phone be used to log in to multiple accounts at the same time? I think it's no problem. I created 6 accounts, all of which have 10,000 followers, and I operated them all on the same Xiaomi phone. Xiaomi phones support dual SIM cards and dual apps, and I log in to two Xiaohongshu accounts at the same time for a long time. Many tutorials say that one phone needs one account, and you can’t connect to WiFi, otherwise there will be risks. But as a product designer, I think this rule is unreasonable because it cannot accurately identify marketing accounts. Nowadays, most mobile phones support dual SIM cards and dual standby, and there are many self-media practitioners. It is normal to open two accounts, one for personal image creation and self-media, and the other for personal entertainment, information search, shopping, etc. The truly effective rules for identifying marketing accounts should be judged based on the marketing content and traffic-generating operations. 2. Can two mobile phones log in to the same Xiaohongshu account at the same time? No, after mobile phone A logs into Xiaohongshu, the account on mobile phone B will be forced offline. 3. Do I need to maintain a newly registered account? The so-called account maintenance means pretending to browse content and participate in interactions like normal users for several consecutive days. After my actual operation, I think it is unnecessary unless you are operating a large number of marketing accounts. If you only have one or two accounts for your own use, you can publish content normally. Xiaohongshu knows that many people want to increase their followers and realize their income through self-media, and it does not object. The user retention and product transactions you bring are beneficial to the platform. However, if the traffic is diverted to outside the platform or the products are sold outside the platform, the platform cannot extract commissions and will crack down on it. Again, the real rules for identifying marketing accounts should be based on the marketing content and traffic-generating operations, rather than whether the account is maintained. 4. Can I modify my profile frequently? If you don't change the track and just optimize the wording, it's not a big problem. Official regulations allow you to modify your profile three times a week. But if the positioning changes, for example, the original personal profile shows that you are a photographer, but then it is changed to a psychological counselor, the positioning changes and the account weight will change. 5. Can I change my profile picture or nickname frequently? Yes, you can change it at any time if needed. But please note that if the change is too big, it may affect your fans' memory of you. 6. Can I include contact information such as WeChat/email/mobile phone number in my personal profile? No. If you don’t have more than 200,000 followers, you can’t even put your email address, because diverting traffic outside the platform means going against the platform, and the platform will definitely deal with you. If you have more than 200,000 followers, your influence can be used as a bargaining chip in negotiations with the platform, and the platform may turn a blind eye to it if you put your email address. But if you put your mobile phone and WeChat, they will definitely be cleared. Advertisers contact bloggers, usually through email. 7. Can I delete notes in batches? It is okay to delete two or three articles, but if you delete dozens of articles in a row, it will have a huge negative impact. Let's judge from the perspective of whether it is beneficial to the platform. On the one hand, deleting notes is equivalent to erasing the platform's memory of you. The platform knows that you registered early but have no contribution record, which will reduce your weight. On the other hand, what you actually deleted is the platform's content assets, which damaged the platform's interests. So don't delete a large number of notes at once, you can hide them first. 8. How many accounts can one person authenticate? One ID number can only be used to authenticate one account, and the real-name authentication cannot be canceled. 9. When performing real-name authentication, does the ID card and the mobile phone number used to register the account need to be the same person? No. I use my mobile phone number for one of my secondary accounts, and my family members’ ID numbers for real-name authentication. 10. What are the benefits of a certified professional number? What are the conditions for obtaining a professional number? There is no threshold, and a newly registered account with 0 followers can also be opened as long as it is not an abnormal account. 12. If a note is just published and the initial data is good, but the data stops after a few hours, it is likely that the platform will judge it as a marketing advertisement. Will I be restricted if I modify a note right after it is published? No, many people will observe for 1-3 hours after posting their notes. No, it will definitely violate the rules, and the other party will not be able to see the message you sent. 30. What should I do if private message traffic diversion violates the rules? Keep silent for a week to avoid any further violations, and then post notes normally after the violations are lifted. 31. What is the recommendation mechanism of Xiaohongshu? Can I use WeChat ID to post on Xiaohongshu? If the WeChat ID is a mobile phone number, it must not be sent. If it is a combination of English letters, it can be sent occasionally, but if it is sent too often, it will be recognized by the system. You can change the method, such as occasionally using text, occasionally using pictures, occasionally using secret codes, etc., and you must not use the same sentence structure. 39. What does the phrase “small eyes” mean? Does it refer to the exposure? The small eye refers to the small eye icon in the lower right corner of the note cover on your personal homepage after you publish a note. It does not represent exposure, which refers to the number of times the note cover is viewed by others; the small eye refers to clicks, that is, the number of times users click on your note cover. 40. The update frequency has not changed much, but the recent note data is not as good as before. Is it restricted? Not necessarily. For example, during the Double 11 period, Xiaohongshu will tilt the traffic towards the notes promoting Double 11, and the recommended traffic of other notes will decrease. In other words, the platform's traffic recommendation will be dynamically adjusted according to the specific situation, and it may get better after this hot spot. 41. Should I add as many tags as possible at the end of each note? First of all, the purpose of adding tags is to increase the chances of being included and searched. Generally, you can add keywords related to the topic, 3 to 15 is fine. Adding too many tags has disadvantages. First, it will confuse your account positioning, and the system will find it difficult to determine your account type, so your push will not be accurate; second, others will be attracted by your tags, but find that the content is irrelevant to them, which will result in a lot of clicks but few likes and collections. This is not a high-quality note and will also affect the account push. 42. Is the update frequency daily? Under the premise of ensuring the quality of content, daily updates are the best; but not everyone has the energy and conditions to do so. Generally speaking, a note with a click-through rate of 5% – 10% is considered good quality; if the click-through rate is above 10%, it is considered a note with a high click-through rate. 44. The content of my previous account was rather messy. Now I want to make it more vertical. Do I need to open a new account? If the previous account did not have serious violations, there is no need to open a new account. You can hide the previous notes first instead of deleting them in large quantities. You can delete a small amount, such as 1-2 pieces a day, gradually over a few weeks. But to be honest, there is no need to delete. 45. What size should the cover image be? Display rules for cover images: The maximum display ratio is 3:4 vertical images. Even long vertical images such as 9:16 and 1:2 will be displayed as a 3:4 grid, and blank space will be left on both sides of the long vertical images. How long is the best time for a video to be released? If there is oral content, it is generally appropriate to be 1-3 minutes long. Pay attention to the rhythm. If it is too long, people may not be able to watch it patiently. Content design is a professional and difficult task. 50. What is the best day of the week to post notes? According to my experience, the data on Wednesday and Thursday is better, but not so good on Friday night. Generally, you can roughly judge which day of the week people have more time to browse Xiaohongshu. For example, on Friday night, many girls have activities, so there are relatively few people browsing Xiaohongshu. You can also try and feel it by publishing every day according to your own field. 51. Why can’t I search my notes? Maybe your notes are ranked low and difficult to find; maybe the content of your notes is of poor quality or violates the rules and is not included, so it cannot be found. 52. How to determine whether my notes have been included? You can use the notes collection query of Huitun data. 53. What kind of notes will be included? Notes from high-quality accounts will be given priority. Notes that violate platform rules, contain sensitive words, have a history of violations that have not been corrected in a timely manner, have poor content quality, are deemed unsuitable for display by the platform (such as large-scale promotion, showing off wealth, etc.), are still under review, are from accounts that have been restricted or banned, or are plagiarized will not be included. 54. If the notes are not included, will it have a big impact on traffic? The impact is relatively large. Not being included means that the platform does not recognize it, the recommended traffic will be restricted, and the search traffic will be 0. 55. Should I mark the location of my notes? If you are looking for stores, travel, education and training, etc., it is best to mark the location, so that there will be a lot of local traffic recommendations. If it is beauty and other content that is not closely related to the city, it is okay not to mark it. 56. Can I buy likes with money? In fact, the idea of "human intervention" makes sense. How to choose a track? Nowadays, any single track is in a highly saturated state, and a combination of tracks is needed, such as: pets + comedy + food. This can reduce competition and give people a bright feeling. 64. When should notes be sent? I have tried posting at 1am, 3am, 4am, 7am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, 9pm, 11pm, and almost every other time. I think the flow of notes has nothing to do with the time of posting. Good content should have flow no matter when it is posted, otherwise the algorithm of the platform is too backward. 65. Can I have 2 accounts at the same time? Yes, in fact, many bloggers run 3-5 accounts at the same time. When you only run one account, it is easy to have data anxiety. You will be complacent when there are many likes, and sigh when there are few likes. 66. What should I do if I can’t update daily? Daily updates can help your account get started, but they are not necessary. There are many ways to make up for it. We all know that the platform is pursuing growth, such as the increase in user stay time, the increase in the number of users, the increase in daily and monthly active users, the increase in revenue, etc. If you can provide these growth values for the platform, the platform will give you preferential incentives. Then think about how to increase the length of time users stay. For example, guiding users to leave comments and reply to comments will increase their length of stay; increasing the density of useful content in notes to increase the length of time users spend reading; changing to posting videos, etc. 67. Does posting frequency have an impact on traffic? It has an impact. What is valuable is the common elements in 100 successful notes and the experience gained from them. 69. The current account data is not good. Do I need to register a new account and start over? In fact, there is not much difference between the new account and the old account. The advantages of the old account are certain, such as likes data, historical behavior data, etc. The disadvantage may be that it has not been labeled with a vertical category by the system. As long as you are not warned of violations by the platform, you generally do not need to open a new account. The next operation direction can be repeated from the historical notes, and you can operate patiently. It is important to examine whether the positioning is valuable to users and whether it can help users gain something or avoid losing something. If you open a new account, there is a small reminder: do not modify the Xiaohongshu ID number first. It can only be changed once in a lifetime. It will be very troublesome if the positioning changes in the future and it does not match the Xiaohongshu account. If you find that you are unable to produce content continuously, is it because you are heading in the wrong direction? It’s not necessarily that the direction is wrong, it may be that the direction is too big. For example, teaching people photography is a general direction, and it seems that it can produce a lot of content, but it is not easy to think of the specific content of the next article. But if it is broken down into teaching people how to photograph food, the subject matter will become very focused and endless. The content can be how to shoot breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea/dinner/midnight snack (time dimension), how to shoot a visit to a snack bar/restaurant/hotel (venue dimension), as well as food type dimension, lighting dimension, shooting equipment dimension, etc. The point of focus must be small enough to pay attention to more. 71. What does non-filing notes mean? Sometimes merchants will send us private messages to cooperate with us, asking us to publish advertising notes for their products, and then pay us through WeChat. This kind of advertising that does not go through the Xiaohongshu Dandelion platform is a non-registered note. Without going through the Xiaohongshu platform, the platform cannot extract commissions, merchants can reduce expenses, and we can get more rewards. However, it damages the interests of the platform, so the platform will definitely crack down on it through methods such as limiting traffic and banning. 72. Is it true that non-reporting notes cannot be sent? Not necessarily. As long as the advertising content is implanted softly enough so that people can’t see it, there won’t be a problem. 73. What is KOC? Amateurs (non-big V, KOL) are divided into high-quality KOC and ordinary KOC according to the number of fans and the quality of pictures and texts. High-quality KOC: The number of fans is generally between 1,000 and 20,000, with an average of 100+ interactions and certain content creation capabilities, which is equivalent to a KOL with a low number of fans; Ordinary KOC: The number of fans is generally between 300 and 10,000. There are no special requirements for data. They mainly send pictures and texts directly or write texts based on pictures, and their content creation ability is poor. Generally, those who distribute orders in WeChat Moments or in groups are recruiting KOCs. 74. Is it easy for Xiaohongshu to do business now that it is a new entrant? I think it depends on the purpose, whether it is to increase followers or to monetize. Increasing followers can bring you a certain influence and shape your image among colleagues and friends. It is not particularly difficult and there are great opportunities. In the past, people pursued high fan base in order to get advertising. Now businesses have discovered that the return on advertising fees is not as good as hiring anchors to sell goods, so now it is not easy to get advertising even if there are a lot of fans. Monetization does not require a large number of fans. Now, the pursuit of "low fans, high monetization" has a certain threshold. You must dare to live broadcast, or have your own offline products. If so, Xiaohongshu has a lower threshold and higher returns than Video Account and Douyin. 75. Xiaohongshu has approached me and wanted to advertise for free (for a product owned by a large company). Should I accept this offer? Because cooperation is mutually beneficial, what the partner wants is publicity and exposure, so what do you want? Another point to note: If Xiaohongshu ads are not on the Dandelion platform, you must try to avoid advertising suspicion. Because if you don’t use the official platform, the official cannot collect commissions, and if you infringe on their interests, you will be hit, and you may be warned and restricted, and it will be difficult to recover for several months. You need to think clearly about what you want and whether you can hedge the risks. If you don’t know, it’s best not to accept it. 76. What are the monetization methods of Xiaohongshu? The ways I can think of: 1) Selling accounts (I have written an article before, 100-150 yuan/1,000 fans, and it is easier to sell accounts with more than 8,000 fans) 2) Accept advertising to realize cash (advertising is hard to come by now, and brands have found that live streaming has a higher return on investment, so they have reduced their advertising budgets) 3) I have also come across a form of advertising where the brand bids me to replace some of the content in the hot-selling notes with product advertising copy/pictures 4) Live streaming 5) Notes to promote products (notes with product links) 6) You can open a store if you have a source of goods 7) Direct traffic to private domain products (such as consulting services, paid knowledge courses) Generally, small accounts are used to attract traffic, such as first guiding people into the group, and then using small accounts to show their WeChat accounts in various ways, hahaha Or you can put up a 1 yuan product to attract traffic, and when the other party places an order, you can get the other party's mobile phone number and try to add him~~ 77. Does Xiaohongshu really need a large number of fans to monetize? Xiaohongshu's traditional monetization model is to increase followers through popular notes, and then monetize by accepting advertisements by increasing the price. But now the market environment has changed. Xiaohongshu strongly supports live broadcasting. Brands have found that their business conversion rate is better than advertising through corporate accounts, so they have reduced their advertising budgets.
