Archive: "Data Analysis Job Interview Series" - "Preparation" - "2 When is the best time to change jobs" This is the second article in the series on preparation for data analysis job interviews. The topic is about when is the best time to change jobs. First time point: 6 monthsThere are several time points for job hopping, you can refer to them. The first one is half a year, which is about six months. Six months may sound very short to you. Of course, this short is relative. If you skip every two or three months, then I suggest you skip every six months. You join a company and find that its work style and environment, or its job responsibilities, are completely different from what you had expected. You really can't stand it and you'd better leave immediately. If you don't make up your mind to leave right away and wait until your labor contract, social security, etc. are all paid, then I suggest you try to delay leaving for six months. If you leave immediately, you can explain in the next interview that you left immediately because the job you were offered was different from what you wanted. Then this reason will not have a big impact on HR's judgment of your stability because you have your own career development plan. Even since you will be leaving soon and have no social security record, you don't have to reflect this experience in your resume. But if you have already joined the company and have been there for a month or two and then leave, it will easily raise questions about your stability. So, why do you have to stay for six months? Because if you really don't like this job, you can either stay there or actively do something to change your position. After these six months, when you have the next interview, you can say: Because the previous company may be a little different from what I expected in some aspects, but what kind of work did I do afterwards and what positive efforts did I make? I tried to change the direction to what I expected, but after half a year of hard work, I still didn't achieve my goal. In the end, I found that it was not suitable for me, so I left. If this is the case, HR will judge that you are proactive in adapting to the workplace environment, and as long as the current position is not too different from your expectations, you will actively adjust your status. So these six months are actually a last-ditch effort to give yourself a better reason to leave. Six months is definitely better than changing jobs every one or two months. Of course, this is only a last resort. Second time point: 1 yearThe second node is one year. If you have been in a company for a full year, generally speaking, you must be more proficient in some basic skills, you have already started to get in touch with the business and have a preliminary understanding of the business. If you interview for a junior position after a year, you have a certain advantage. Because you have basic skills, you can save the next company several months of training time after you enter the next company. Of course, if you have no other work experience, you will not be able to apply for a high-end position with one year of experience. You can only work in some grassroots executive positions at most. If you want to achieve this leap in your rank by changing jobs, one year is definitely not enough. You must at least guarantee two to three years of work experience. If you have worked in other companies before, and you have been in this company for a year and want to leave. My personal suggestion is to look at the salary increase and how long it will take to get a raise. For social recruitment, a year of work is often considered not to be very stable. A year is the perfect time for you to become familiar with the workflow of your current position and shine. Leaving at this time would actually be a loss for the company. So he will also be worried about whether you will have stability issues after joining my company. The third time node: job hopping after 3 yearsNode 3: 3 years The third period is two and a half to three years. This is a golden period for job hopping. In terms of your ability growth, you have been in this company long enough. Your basic skills must be no problem; you have started to get involved in deeper business and you have a lot of understanding of the business; and three years is enough time for you to do enough projects, and you have also begun to accumulate your own methodology. As for your career growth, your current salary increase is generally lower than your growth rate, so you will start to think about changing jobs. Then from the perspective of the next employer, after two or three years, your ability has reached a certain level. But your salary is not particularly high, so he can recruit you with a relatively low salary. Therefore, job seekers with two to three years of experience have a very high cost-effectiveness ratio, so your success rate in job interviews will also be relatively high. The fourth time point: 5 yearsThe last situation is that you have worked in this company for five years. This situation is relatively complicated because you have been in this company for five years and normally you are unlikely to leave. If you really leave, the first reason is that you have found a very good position that can give full play to your abilities and realize your life plan. For this kind of person, I believe he does not need to take a job interview course, so I will not say more here. The second reason is that you may not be able to stay. If you can't stay here anymore, it may be because the company has laid off employees, or the business team has undergone major changes and wants to drive you away. Your leader is targeting you and you are not comfortable. You feel that if you don't leave, you will just waste your time here. Whatever the reason, it must be passive. In this passive situation, if you were a manager before and you have led people, it's easier to write your resume and it will be easier to find a job. After all, you have management experience, which can beat many other people in seconds. And your job stability is very high, so the interview will be easier. If you don't have anyone to lead, and what you do is some very basic maintenance work, and there is nothing special, this situation will be more difficult. In this case, I still recommend that you find an experienced resume coach who can help you sort out everything you have done in the past five years. Since you have a lot of time, I believe you will be able to find some highlights in these five years. Then, package these things into your resume, which can improve you and your success rate in job interviews. |
