eBay Germany has announced that it has partnered with used equipment repairer Foxway to launch a "trade-in" program, through which buyers can submit old items to eBay in exchange for points towards the purchase of new items. eBay buyers can learn the value of their old equipment at Foxway and instantly receive a credit in a certain amount that is deducted directly from the purchase price when buying new equipment on eBay. The amount of the credit depends on the make, model and condition of the equipment. Users must convert the points they have earned into coupons and order the desired smartphone or tablet within 24 hours, otherwise they will not be able to use it. After receiving the new item, users need to transfer all data from the old device to the new device as soon as possible. Additionally, used devices must be shipped to Foxway within 21 days, and Foxway will inspect, repair or refurbish them before selling them on the eBay Re-Store. Participants of the new trade-in program will also receive a €30 shopping voucher if they successfully trade in their old device between December 8 and December 31, 2022. The voucher can be redeemed within 30 days. It is understood that Foxway is one of the largest e-commerce companies in Europe, focusing on second-hand transactions of smartphones or tablets, processing more than 1.5 million devices each year. For example, Foxway pays up to 330 euros for an iPhone 12 64 GB, up to 130 euros for a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 128 GB, and up to 250 euros for a Google Pixel 6 5G 128 GB. Separately, eBay recently began providing buyers with insights into the CO2 emissions associated with their shopping carts through the new “My Carbon Account” feature. eBay users also have the opportunity to offset these CO2 emissions by purchasing CO2 certificates when purchasing new items as part of the trade-in program. It is worth mentioning that recently, eBay announced a partnership with Advanced Clothing Solutions (ACS), a second-hand clothing resale, disinfection and repair platform, to enhance the supply of second-hand goods in its online market and reduce waste in the fashion industry. According to the latest research from eBay, second-hand shopping is growing in the UK. Nearly nine in ten (87%) of UK adults surveyed said they had bought a second-hand item in the past twelve months, and more than six in ten (63%) said they had sold a second-hand item. So far in 2022, one piece of second-hand clothing is sold every second. The partnership between eBay and ACS will help more brands and retailers create and quickly expand resale products, while providing more second-hand goods to eBay UK’s 2,000 customers. |
