Do sellers pay for Amazon shipping? How much is the shipping fee?

I often hear many Amazon sellers who do self-delivery complain that some buyers’ reasons for returns are too ridiculous, but the return shipping costs are too high, so they are forced to directly refund the full amount to the buyers and cannot get the products back.

Although Amazon is a customer-centric platform, it does not mean that sellers need to unconditionally bear all after-sales costs regardless of the reason for the buyer's return.

In fact, according to Amazon's policy, if the seller can provide a return address in the United States, under certain return reasons, the seller can require the buyer to bear the corresponding return shipping costs.

In some cases, Amazon return shipping costs must be paid by the seller. For example, if the wrong item is shipped or arrives damaged, the seller cannot deduct the original shipping cost or return shipping costs from the refund. The seller must provide the buyer with a full refund.

For returns due to buyer error (e.g., accidental order, same item available at a cheaper price), merchants can deduct return shipping costs from the refund.

There are two delivery methods on the Amazon platform, one is self-delivery and the other is Amazon FBA. The returns under these two methods are different.

The first is self-delivery. If the buyer does not like the product for personal reasons after purchasing it, the buyer needs to go to his or her own buyer backend to apply for a return. As long as the seller agrees to the return application in the backend, Amazon will automatically generate a return code for the buyer.

In this case, the buyer needs to send the courier to the seller's delivery address, and the return shipping fee will be borne by the buyer. However, if the product is caused by quality problems or misunderstandings due to improper description by the seller, the seller needs to bear the shipping fee and provide a prepaid label for the buyer to return the product.

The second is FBA delivery. Whether the goods shipped by FBA are returned due to quality problems or buyers are dissatisfied with the goods, the shipping costs are borne by FBA. When the buyer applies for a refund, Amazon will charge the seller a return management fee for this order.

If the return is for an order of multiple items and the buyer only returns one item, Amazon will charge a return administration fee of up to $5. Because this formula is calculated for each refund item, when you refund multiple items of the same item, Amazon will retain a refund administration fee of no more than $5 for that item.

Finally, no matter what kind of returns are, Amazon sellers do not want to see them. Therefore, sellers still need to do their best to do a good job of pre-sale inspection of products, and the product description must be accurate to avoid misunderstandings by buyers. This will greatly reduce the store's return and refund rate and maintain a good store index.

If an FBA order is refunded, will the FBA fees such as order processing fees be refunded?

After the order is returned, the FBA fee sent must be collected, but the seller does not need to collect the fee sent back by the buyer. The rules for FBA refunds are a bit complicated. Now you can find a few FBA refunded orders, search for the order in REPORTS - PAYMENT - TRANSACTION VIEW and check the deduction details (click the amount to enter the detailed data page of the charge), and you will gradually understand the rules by doing the calculation yourself.

If there is no promise of free shipping for orders over 29 yuan, they should charge for postage. The fee will depend on how many times you buy. You can try to put it in the shopping cart to check out to see how much the order costs and whether there is any way to reduce the shipping fee. As long as you haven't paid, they will not ship the goods.
