In terms of delivery speed, McDonald's relies on the three buffs of many stores, fast food preparation, and dedicated delivery by riders to accurately feed consumers. Modern people who can't stand being hungry, just as their stomachs scream in protest, burgers are spinning into their mouths.

At the same time, in order to keep the fries crispy when they are delivered, McDonald's has also developed crispy fries so that consumers who are waiting to be fed can enjoy the delicious fries at home.

However, some gifts from fate often come with a price tag. McDonald’s McDelivery is faster than a lightning five-whip, but the 9-yuan delivery fee may make diners who are not rich feel entangled in whether to eat or not.

Therefore, some of them choose to challenge their own limit of hunger and go to the store to dine on their own; some consumers temporarily abandon the Maimen belief and choose other takeout merchants.

Because it does not want its believers to suffer injustice, McDonald's China recently launched a big move: it adjusted the charging model of McDelivery, lowered the delivery fee from 9 yuan to 6 yuan, and launched new delivery paper packaging bags, charging a packaging service fee based on the number of meals. The new charging model also applies to group meal channels.

The charging standard for packaging service fee is based on the order amount: if the order amount is less than 200 yuan, the cap is 2 yuan; if the order amount is between 200 yuan and 300 yuan, the cap is 6 yuan; if the order amount is greater than 300 yuan, the cap is 9 yuan.

For most people, McDonald's McDelivery is mostly ordered by single diners or small gatherings with a few friends, and the order amount generally does not exceed 200 yuan; therefore, the adjusted charging standards are often cheaper than before.

At the same time, as die-hard fans of Maimen, Maijinka members can not only enjoy more favorable Maijinka exclusive packages, but also continue to enjoy reductions in delivery fees and packaging service fees if the order is full.

Has the cost been reduced?

McDonald's, which is more cost-friendly for delivery, has also upgraded the packaging of its McDelivery products. Made of oil-skin paper, 100% of which is FSC-certified, it not only has a significantly improved "physical resistance" and "magic resistance" in rainy days, but also has a handle and other designs that make it more practical.

With so many followers, why did McDonald's McDelivery adjust its charging model? There seem to be two reasons:

First of all, the development and growth of the takeout market is changing the dining habits of many people.

According to iMedia Consulting data, the market size of China's online catering delivery industry will be approximately 1.53 trillion yuan in 2023; it is expected that by 2027, the market size will reach 1.96 billion yuan.

At the same time, relevant data show that as of December 2023, the scale of online food delivery users in China has exceeded 545 million, accounting for about half of the total number of Internet users.

Secondly, similar changes in delivery charging models actually have precedents in the industry.

In February 2024, KFC Home Delivery announced that the delivery fee would be reduced from 9 yuan to 6 yuan, and a packaging service fee would be charged based on specific circumstances.

Among them, the service fee for whole chicken packaging is 1 yuan per portion, hamburgers, meat rolls, and rice are 0.8 yuan per portion, and snacks, desserts, and side dishes are 0.6 yuan per portion.

In July 2024, Starbucks also adjusted the charging standards for Starbucks Delivery: the delivery fee was reduced from 9 yuan to 7 yuan, and a packaging service fee of 1 yuan per item was charged for some products.

However, McDonald's adjustment of the charging model for McDelivery has still divided netizens into different camps.

In response, supporters said: "McDonald's heard my needs, and the delivery fee has finally been reduced." "The 9 yuan delivery fee has been reduced to 6 yuan, and McDonald's people are ecstatic."

Some netizens also complained about the packaging service fee, saying, "What a South-to-North Water Diversion Project, robbing Peter to pay Paul." "Will the cost be higher than before if the delivery fee is reduced and the packaging service fee is increased?"

In response to the doubts raised by some netizens, Brother Pang conducted an actual experience and ordered a teriyaki chicken leg breakfast. He found that the delivery fee was 6 yuan and the packaging service fee was 0.8 yuan. The total delivery fee was 6.8 yuan, which was 2.2 yuan cheaper than before.

If consumers spend 19 yuan a month and apply for McDonald's Gold Card membership, the delivery fee will be waived. Diners who order McDonald's delivery can make their money back in less than three orders. It can be seen that for most consumers, McDonald's delivery price adjustment is actually cheaper.

More than just food

After the delivery fee adjustment, will the service quality of McDonald's McDelivery be compromised? Of course not.

After all, McDonald's has always insisted on "delivery within 30 minutes, compensation will be paid if overdue." The delivery riders who are determined to fulfill their mission will never let consumers down.

In terms of food prices, McDonald's has not raised prices throughout 2024. For hungry consumers, McDonald's is becoming more affordable.

Brother Pang discovered that McDonald’s three-piece meal, which includes a hamburger, French fries and a cola, is priced at 22.9 yuan; at the same time, the one-plus-one meal is known as the "poor man's meal" because of its high cost-effectiveness at 13.9 yuan.

At the same time, if the consumer is a McKin Card member, the discount can reach the MAX level. For example, the BFF four-square snack plate meal for two, including two burgers, four snacks and drinks, is priced at 61.9 yuan exclusively for McKin Card members, and the delivery fee is also waived.

On McDonald's Member Day every Monday, consumers can also receive other discounts, such as the teriyaki chicken burger for 11.9 yuan, the beef two-piece set for 24.9 yuan, and the new-style CP for 9.9 yuan, which have attracted many McDonald's followers.

In addition to satisfying consumers' appetites, McDonald's seems to be equally concerned about the emotional value of its believers.

For example, when ordering takeout, consumers can interact with the store clerk remotely and write relevant codes in the order notes, which will give them a chance to get extra McNuggets, French fries and other foods.
